GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — A High Point coffee shop is preparing to close in about two weeks.
A Special Blend has a mission to improve the quality of life for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities by providing employment.
Some who work there said the coffee shop gave them opportunities they struggled to find elsewhere. Despite the sadness around losing the location, they’re choosing to focus on the memories they’ve made.
“I’m a college student, so I was trying to find … a part-time job. … very time I tried to apply to a job and let them know I was disabled, I could see … that they didn’t really want to hire me. … My sister saw on the news that they opened a store called A Special Blend, where they hire people with disabilities,” said Bobbieann Isaac, who works at A Special Blend.
