Get ready for an extremely hot Fourth of July weekend in Triad

PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) —Dangerously hot conditions are developing across the Eastern U.S., and we are feeling the effects here in North Carolina.

High pressure, locked in position over the southern Appalachians, continues to bring potentially record-breaking heat to the Piedmont. Skies stay mostly sunny today with highs climbing into the mid-90s. The heat index is headed into the lower 100s this afternoon. Please take care of yourself, your loved ones, and your pets in this enduring heat.

We will have partly cloudy skies tonight with lows in the mid-70s.

Thursday, Friday, and Saturday may break records as highs blaze into the upper-90s. Skies remain mostly sunny during the daytime hours, with heat indices potentially between 104 and 108 degrees. Overnight low temperatures offer little relief as they hover in the mid-70s.

The heat dome starts to break down on Sunday, though it will remain unseasonably hot.  Expect highs around 97 degrees under partly cloudy skies…
