Sweltering heat may bring afternoon thunderstorms to Triad through Friday evening

PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — Summer heat and humidity will continue to smother the Piedmont.

Thursday and Friday will be hot and muggy with lows in the lower 70s and highs in the lower 90s. At times our heat index, or feels like temperature, will be near 100 degrees. With daytime heating, scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms are possible with the chance of rain hovering at 30%.

On Saturday and Sunday, a cold front from Virginia will crawl into the Piedmont. With a front in the area, scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely. Highs on Saturday will be around 90 degrees. Highs on Sunday will be in the low to middle 80s. The chance of rain increases to 60% on Saturday and Sunday…
