After a 2-10 finish in his first season, North Carolina A&T head coach Shawn Gibbs believes the Aggies have taken significant steps forward entering the 2026 campaign. The Aggies finished 2-10 in 2025 but earned two conference victories over Hampton and Campbell. North Carolina A&T was also competitive in several CAA games, including close losses to Maine and William & Mary, but struggled to consistently turn those performances into wins.
Outside conference play, the Aggies dropped a 24-21 season opener to Tennessee State, fell 62-20 to rival North Carolina Central and later lost to eventual MEAC and Celebration Bowl champion South Carolina State. Despite those results, Gibbs said the program has made noticeable progress since this time a year ago.
“We’ve made a lot of progress in a number of ways,” Gibbs said during CAA Media Day. “You know, startin’ with talent. We’ve brought in a lot more talent. The guys that we had here last year have developed and become better players. So we’re excited about where we’re goin’.”…
