Triple-digit heat settles on the Triangle this week in late-summer wave

Raleigh and central North Carolina residents should prepare for sweltering temperatures this week, as a late-summer heat wave is expected for the region.

The warming trend begins Sunday, according to the National Weather Service. Cloudy morning skies will turn into partly or mostly sunny conditions by this afternoon, and temperatures will climb to the mid-80s to around 90 degrees.

While much of the area will remain dry today, the Weather Service reports a slight chance of a passing shower or thunderstorm in the areas southeast of the Triangle.
