CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – We are giving you the First Alert for a significant shift in our weather pattern. After a brief break, dangerous heat and humidity are making a comeback to the Carolinas starting Tuesday, with heat index values climbing into the triple digits.
Sunday & Monday
Diurnal showers are expected to develop on Sunday and Monday across the North Carolina mountains. However, in the Piedmont region rain coverage will likely be isolated or nonexistent. If you’re heading to the Blue Ridge Mountains, keep an umbrella handy just in case.
Sunday: Mostly cloudy with highs near 88°. A 20% chance of showers mainly in the mountains.
Monday: Getting hotter with highs near 95° and feel like temperatures near 100°. Isolated showers possible in the mountains again with a 20% chance of precipitation.
Tuesday to Friday: Heat spikes
This is where we need your attention. Subtropical high pressure is building in and settling over the Southeast, bringing dangerous heat and humidity that will stick around in the Charlotte athrough the end of the week. Highs are expected to climb into the low to mid-90s, but the real concern is the heat index.
