Temperatures finally cool down after late summer heat wave in Triad

PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — After a brutally hot week, followed by back-to-back storms on Friday and Saturday, the Piedmont Triad is finally getting some relief.

Not quite as hot today, thanks to a cold front moving through and to the south. Still, the air is not dry and we are going to get a few showers and thunderstorms behind the front.

State of emergency declared in Asheboro due to storm damage

Our chance for a shower or thunderstorm will remain until mid-evening. Most should remain below severe levels, with that threat closer to Charlotte and to the south. Tonight will become partly cloudy with a low around 67.

Tomorrow will be a nice Labor Day, great for cookouts. Mostly sunny to partly cloudy with a high of 81 and generally clear, with temperatures dropping to 63 tomorrow night…
