GRAHAM, N.C. (WGHP/WNCN) — The North Carolina Department of Transportation is planning for work to continue at the Interstate 85/40 bridge over the Haw River after cracks in concrete were discovered under the structure.
The NCDOT says that there was no structural damage to the bridge near mile marker 149 and that traffic was safe to cross as normal. Crews started repairing the damage the first week of September, with all work now completed, officials said Thursday.
Photos of cracked concrete underneath the bridge, as well as debris, gained traction on social media in late August. By Thursday, crews had removed a large chunk of concrete that was hanging under the bridge.
The broken concrete that was hanging under the bridge was part of a platform used for bridge inspections and had no effect on the structural integrity of the structure, according to Jordan Campos, an NCDOT spokesperson…
