GREENSBORO, N.C. — A local staple that’s fed families for four decades is closing its doors this Saturday. Town and Country Meat and Produce owner, Christy Umfleet didn’t want to appear on camera, but in a statement posted on the store’s front door, she said new ownership of the shopping center, combined with the rising cost of doing business, made continuing to operate “no longer financially possible.” She said relocating would cost more than the business could take on.
“This is definitely not an easy decision,” she wrote. “The store has been a huge part of our family’s lives for many years, and we are incredibly thankful for every customer who has walked through our doors.”
Next door at the Pavilion restaurant, manager Sophia Moore says the news hit hard. “We’re almost like brother and sister, and to watch them go scares us,” Moore said. “We don’t know what it’s gonna bring, watching them leave.”…
