HIGH POINT, N.C. (WGHP) — It started as a partnership among the community and different law enforcement agencies. Now nearly three decades later, the model established in High Point is being copied in cities all across the United States.
High Point Community Against Violence is a nonprofit that works not only to protect the community from violent criminals, but also to help those criminals become productive, law-abiding citizens.
“Our inception of wanting to help in the community was because of the violence that was going on, so there was no basis for how we were going to do it,” said Gretta Bush, a founding member of High Point Community Against Violence and the current board president. “We just wanted to stop lighting candles, and candles go out, and we go back to the violence.”
