Man charged with DWI, 2nd-degree murder after deadly December crash, Winston-Salem police say

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WGHP) — A man is being held without bond after a deadly crash late last year.

On December 22, 2023, officers came to the scene of a reported crash on US 52 North near Arkon Drive just after 11:30 p.m .

At the scene, police discovered a heavily damaged car in the road. The driver was found under the car and he was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. The passenger in the car, Victoria Rose Brown, 19, was pronounced dead at the scene.

At the time, investigators said that someone crashed into the victims’ car. The car rolled multiple times and they were both thrown from the vehicle. Police say they weren’t wearing seatbelts. The other car didn’t remain at the scene of the crash.

On January 23, 2024, Codey Phillip-Wayne Jones was arrested on charges of driving while impaired, careless and reckless driving, felony death by vehicle and second-degree murder. He is being held without bond.
