Man dies after fire on porch of Asheboro home, police say

ASHEBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — A man has died after a fire in Asheboro.

Asheboro Police Department says that on Tuesday, just before 3:30 p.m., officers were called to South Park Street to assist the Asheboro Fire Department.

Officers say that a man, identified as Roman Aleksander Stobnicki, was sitting in a wheelchair on the front porch of the home when a fire started “in or around” his wheelchair. Stobnicki was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries.

“Detectives from the department’s criminal investigations division are investigating the case to determine the origins of the fire and the circumstances surrounding the incident,” the police said.
