Investigators say that Bryce Thomas Swanson, 19, of Greensboro, was driving south on US 29 in the inside lane in a 2020 Honda Accord and sideswiped a 2019 Chevrolet Malibu that was driving south on US 29 in the outside lane. Swanson then lost control of his car, crossed the median and collided with a roll-back wrecker truck that was traveling north on US 29.

Swanson died at the scene, according to troopers. The driver of the Malibu was not injured and the driver of the wrecker truck was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
