GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) – Leaders want your help identifying the person who left a dog to die in freezing temperatures in front of the Guilford County Animal Services building when it was closed.
“This animal suffered needlessly,” said Jorge Ortega, executive director of Guilford County Animal Services.

Members of Ortega’s staff got to their location on Guilford College Road on Monday, Jan. 22, and checked the donation bin like they always do. They looked down and saw a plastic tote with a blanket over it. When they lifted the blanket they found a brown and white male bully mix, weighing about 35 pounds, frozen to death.
The dog appeared to have been left in the bin overnight, when overnight temperatures plunged to around 20 degrees, and had no microchip.
“I don’t even want to imagine what this poor animal went through,” said Ortega. “They immediately came over and told me what happened first thing as soon as I walked into the building.”
