1 dead, 2 seriously injured in Graham crash on NC 87 near East Greensboro Chapel Hill Road, troopers say

GRAHAM, N.C. (WGHP) — A Fayetteville woman died on Monday after a crash in Graham, and two people were left with serious injuries, according to a State Highway Patrol news release.

At 6:50 p.m., troopers responded when they were told about a crash on NC 87 near East Greensboro Chapel Hill Road in Alamance County.

Sheila Ranay Steele, 68, of Fayetteville, was going south on NC 87 in a 2023 Nissan Rogue SUV. A 43,-year-old Graham man was going north on NC 87 in a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado.

Steele crossed the centerline and hit the truck head on, troopers say.

Steele died on-scene.

The Graham man and front seat passenger, a 43-year-old Burlington woman, suffered serious personal injuries and were taken to the hospital.

Investigators are uncertain what caused Steele to cross the centerline. Troopers don’t believe impairment or speed were factors in the crash.

NC 87 near East Greensboro Chapel Hill Road was closed for around hours during the investigation.

Troopers cleared the scene at 9:18 p.m.
