Moped rider killed in hit-and-run in Burlington; suspect at-large, police say

BURLINGTON, N.C. (WGHP) — A moped rider was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Friday afternoon, according to the Burlington Police Department.

At around 12:40 p.m. on Friday, officers came to Tucker Street after getting a call about a crash.

Investigators say that a man on a moped, later identified as Robert Clinton Slade, 57, of Burlington, was hit by a van that did not remain at the scene and drove away.

Slade was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Police identified the suspect as Roberto Marin-Mejia, 44, of Graham. He currently has outstanding warrants for felony hit-and run-resulting in death.

Roberto’s whereabouts are currently unknown.

The investigation is ongoing.
