Winston-Salem 19-year-old pleads guilty to drive-by shooting that injured 2

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WGHP) — A teenager will spend several years behind bars after a drive-by shooting that left two people hurt at a Winston-Salem apartment complex .

Romancze Miguel Johnson, 19, pleaded guilty to two charges of discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, according to District Attorney James O’Neill’s office.

Superior Court Judge Martin McGee sentenced Johnson to 5 years and 7 months to 8 years and 9 months in prison.

According to the DA, Johnson was among four people in a car as it circled Ladeara Crest Apartments near the 2600 block of Toddler Place Drive on April 17, 2023. Investigators were able to obtain video footage, which showed the car circle the complex twice before, on the third lap, Johnson and another man jumped out and began shooting at several people.

The driver then drove to the dead end of the road and switched seats with the remaining passenger who, after the two shooters got back in the car, got out and fired a rifle into the complex several times before driving away.
