Friday would have been Sergeant Philip “Dale” Nix’s 51st birthday, and to honor him, police officers and others gathered to hold a workout in his honor.

Dozens of officers gathered for the tribute, some arriving as early as 5:30 a.m. in what was nicknamed a ‘heroes workout.’
Nix was shot and killed at the end of December after approaching suspects accused of stealing beer at a Sheetz in Colfax. Three suspects were later arrested and charged in his death.
He was well-known throughout the department as a 23-year veteran, and officers didn’t mind the early wake-up call.
