Man sentenced to 2-3 years after shooting at family during ‘road rage’ incident in Winston-Salem

FORSYTH COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — On Thursday, Carlos Perez-Olmedo, 21, entered a plea of guilty to assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill for shooting at another driver during a “road rage” incident in February 2023, according to a statement released by Forsyth County District Attorney James O’Neill.

He was sentenced to 24 to 41 months, which is two years to three years and five months, in the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections.

Around 10 p.m. on Feb. 26, 2023, Winston-Salem officers responded to Stafford Village Boulevard on a shooting call.

They found a 2012 Volkswagen Passat that had been shot into by another driver. Five people were inside at the time of the shooting.

The driver told police he and his family were driving near the Walmart on Peters
Creek Parkway when another driver in a late model silver Honda Accord almost ran him off the road.

The victim shouted at the other driver, who then pulled up next to him and fired a single round into the victim’s car. The bullet went through the front passenger window and hit the A-pillar on the driver’s side.
