‘Screaming until I was out of breath’: Reidsville woman wins $100,000 after buying $5 scratch-off at gas station

GIBSONVILLE, N.C. (WGHP) — Candy Oliver, of Reidsville, went to her truck to start scratching a $5 lottery ticket and, after seeing a $100,000 top prize, began to celebrate, according to an NC Education Lottery news release.

“I started screaming until I was out of breath,” she said.

Oliver bought her winning Money Bag ticket from Gibsonville Shell on N.C 87 North in Gibsonville.

“I like to buy the new scratch-offs when they come out,” she said.

Oliver said she didn’t know how to react when she saw that she won.

“I was overwhelmed,” she said. “I couldn’t believe it.”

She arrived at lottery headquarters Friday to claim her prize.

After required tax withholdings, she took home $71,501.

“I’m just really, really happy,” Oliver said.
