Greensboro community fearful after shots fired during rush hour

GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) – Greensboro residents are speaking out after two shootings minutes apart and less than a mile away.

Around 6:30 p.m. on Monday, police had a report of a shooting at Bessemer Avenue and Summit Avenue. Nobody was injured, but a car was shot into.

Around the same time, police got a report of a shooting near Yanceyville Street and East Wendover Avenue. Two people were hurt but are expected to survive.

Goldie Wells is the councilmember in that district and tells FOX8 this is disturbing to hear. She also said she is concerned and frustrated that there isn’t a solution to make this stop.

“That is not good … makes me want to go ahead and run home now,” said Qui Nance, who often shops near one of the shooting scenes. “Just stop. It’s not worth taking somebody else’s life or losing your life, losing your life.”

One month into the new year, Greensboro police reported four homicides by a firearm and 101 assaults with a firearm.

“When we first moved here, I never imagined that this place would be like this. I thought it was a safe place,” said Sarah Essien, the part owner of Manna International Foods.
