Tractor-trailer driver charged after crash, oil spill on I-85 South at NC 62 in Guilford County, troopers say

GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — A section of interstate was closed after a crash in Guilford County on Wednesday.

At 12:26 p.m., troopers responded when they were told about a crash on I-85, south near NC 62 in Guilford County, according to a State Highway Patrol news release.

A tractor-trailer and a car were going south on I-85. The tractor-trailer didn’t slow down and hit the back of the car.

Oil from the engine area of the tractor trailer spilled onto the southbound lanes of the interstate.

Emergency crews closed all lanes of I-85 south near NC 62 until the surface could be treated with sand by the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

The operator of the tractor trailer was uninjured.

The driver of the car was left with minor injuries and taken to the hospital.

Troopers charged the tractor-trailer driver with failure to reduce speed.

All southbound lanes of I-85 near NC 62 were closed for around two hours during the investigation.

Troopers cleared the scene at 2:35 p.m.
