North Carolina’s Insurance Commissioner, Mike Causey, has reported that Alexis Bryanna Shubert, a 32-year-old High Point resident, faces charges of insurance fraud and obtaining property by false pretenses. Both charges are felonies. Shubert allegedly submitted a false receipt to the Permanent General Assurance Corporation of Ohio, claiming reimbursement for non-existent car repairs.

The supposed fraudulent activity occurred on May 22, 2023. Special agents from the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division brought the charges against Shubert. She is scheduled to appear in a Guilford County courtroom on March 7.

Commissioner Causey encourages North Carolinians to report any suspected fraud to help maintain low insurance premiums. He stressed that insurance fraud is not a victimless crime and leads to increased premiums for everyone.

The N.C. Department of Insurance Criminal Investigations Division invites anyone suspecting insurance fraud or other white-collar crimes to report them. Anonymous reports can be made by calling the department at 919-807-6840 or toll-free from anywhere in North Carolina at 888-680-7684.
