Man arrested after abducting 16-year-old, Thomasville police say

THOMASVILLE, N.C. (WGHP) — A man has been charged after a 16-year-old girl didn’t come home from school last week.

According to the Thomasville Police Department, officers were called about after a girl didn’t come home from school on Feb. 8. While investigating her disappearance, detectives “uncovered information” that made them think that she was with a 53-year-old man who was an acquaintance of the family.

Police sent a description of the man’s vehicles to multiple agencies. On Friday, a North Carolina trooper spotted the vehicle in Johnston County and the girl was found with Lawrence Nathaniel Chandler, of Trinity.

He was charged with abduction and the girl was reunited with her family, unharmed.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges could be filed.
