The city’s Solid Waste and Recycling Department will stop accepting yard waste in plastic bags from March 1, 2024. Residents should use biodegradable paper bags, available at retailers and online, for yard waste. Grocery store paper bags are not suitable as they are not rain-resistant.
The city is changing its yard waste rules. From March 1, only bundles of sticks under 5-ft long and under 50-lbs will be accepted. Residents can use personal yard waste bins or carts, with a limit of 10 items (bags or bundles) per house per week.
In Spring 2024, the city will offer a 95-gallon, gray rolling cart for yard waste, collected weekly. Residents can decline the cart by March 31. A second cart can be bought for $65 from the City Contact Center.
From July 1, 2024, personal yard waste bins or carts will not be collected. On November 1, 2024, leaf season starts. The city will then accept up to 15 items (paper bags or stick bundles) per week per household, plus yard waste in the 95-gallon cart.
Leaf season ends in the second week of February 2025, and the item limit will drop to 10 per week per household. The city will still collect the 95-gallon yard waste bin. More information is available on the city’s website.
