Pedestrian dies from injuries in Asheboro hit-and-run; wanted woman arrested

ASHEBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — A wanted woman has been arrested after a pedestrian died as a result of injuries he sustained in a hit-and-run crash on Friday morning, according to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office.

At around 4:17 a.m. on Friday, deputies came to Oakland Avenue in Asheboro after getting a report of a hit-and-run involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

At the scene, deputies found a man lying on the ground unresponsive.

Investigators say that the driver of the vehicle that struck the man had already left the scene.

EMS responded and the man was airlifted to a local hospital. The victim was later identified as 45-year-old Billy Glenn Medford, Jr.

Deputies say that Medford died as a result of his injuries on Saturday.

Once the initial investigation concluded, deputies charged 44-year-old Lashanda Kay Schwarcbher with felony assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

Investigators say that Schwarcbher also goes by the name Lashanda or Lashonda Kay Hicks.
