South Carolina homicide suspects apprehended in North Carolina, sheriff’s office says

RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — A Piedmont Triad sheriff’s office has arrested people wanted out of South Carolina for homicide.

According to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, on May 3 area agencies were alerted by York County authorities about two homicide suspects that had left South Carolina heading north on I-85, believed to be near exit 91.

Deputies and officials from surrounding agencies began to work to locate the suspects and were able to find the vehicle within a few minutes and assist a North Carolina State Highway Patrol trooper with a traffic stop.

Mitchell Charles Strickland, 38, and Shelby Jeanette Strickland, 32, were detained and firearms were found in their vehicle.

Mitchell Strickland was wanted for murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime and Shelby Strickland was wanted for accessory to murder.

They were arrested as fugitives and will be extradited to South Carolina.
