Man dies after SUV goes down embankment, hits tree in Asheboro on Loflin Pond Road, troopers say

ASHEBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — A man died after a crash in Randolph County on Wednesday, according to a State Highway Patrol news release.

At 12:29 p.m., troopers responded to the report of a crash on Loflin Pond Road near Foxworth Road in Randolph County.

Anthony Lee Armstrong, 71, of Franklinville, was going north on Loflin Pond Road in a 2019 Ford Escape SUV.

Armstrong went off the road to the right, down an embankment and hit a tree.

He died on-scene.

Investigators are uncertain why Armstrong lost control of his vehicle.

Loflin Pond Road near Foxworth Road was closed for around two hours during the investigation.

Troopers cleared the scene at 4:04 p.m.
