Second inmate ‘mistakenly released’ in Guilford County days after previous ‘improper release’

HIGH POINT, N.C. (WGHP) — Another inmate was accidentally released in Guilford County and is already back behind bars.

According to an arrest report, Jessie Dale Steed, 38, of High Point, was “mistakenly released from jail with an active sentence.” An order for arrest was issued on Thursday, and High Point police arrested Steed on Westchester Drive in High Point at about 6 p.m. the same day.

Steed initially had been charged with felony assault inflicting serious injury.

“The incident did not occur on behalf of the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office,” a representative for GCSO said in response for a request for comment.

FOX8 is working to obtain more information from the Guilford County Courthouse.

This comes just days after another, unrelated “improper release” at the Guilford County Detention Center.

According to warrants, Carlos Geovany Diaz-Gomez , 32, of Winston-Salem, used the identifying information of another inmate while in jail and posing as them in order to be released from custody on Monday. He was returned to jail on Friday.
