Demand Grows for ACC Program to Dismiss Head Coach Following Week 5 Upset

Week 5 of the 2024 college football season has brought us some more exciting games, including No. 6 Ole Miss falling to the Kentucky Wildcats and the No. 7 Miami Hurricanes squeaking out a win over the Virginia Tech Hokies after the officials changed the call on the final play from a catch to an incomplete pass.

But another upset that may have gone unnoticed was the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns going into Winston Salem, North Carolina, to defeat the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, 41-38.

Wake Forest coach Dave Clawson saw his defense get torn to shreds by the Sun Belt school, allowing 466 total yards, 209 of which came on the ground. The game ended on a missed field goal as time expired that would have tied the game as the ball doinked off the goal post.

Clawson has been with the Demon Deacons since 2014 and brought them to a school-record seven straight bowl appearances from 2016-2022 and an ACC Championship appearance. Following quarterback Sam Hartman’s departure to Notre Dame in 2023, the program went downhill fast. They went 4-8 last season and are off to another rough start this year, with Louisiana being the worst loss.
