Greensboro officials address structural concerns of Bellemeade Parking Deck

GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — Ongoing concerns about the structural integrity of the Bellemeade Parking Deck in downtown Greensboro are sparking questions about how city officials have handled the situation.

The parking deck, located at the corner of Bellemeade Street and North Greene Street, has seen its top levels closed for over a year due to structural damage and concerns about the deck’s integrity. Despite this, the bottom three floors are still open, allowing hundreds of cars to park while trusses have been installed to secure the upper levels.

“The thing is the uncertainty … What is going on? The top four floors have been closed for over a year,” said Zack Matheny, president of Downtown Greensboro Incorporated and a Greensboro city councilman.

The parking deck, built in 1991 to boost economic growth in the northern part of downtown, has become a shadow of its former self. City officials say the deck is not in immediate danger of collapse, but the city is actively working with tenants and property owners to relocate vehicles and find alternative parking solutions.
