2 charged in Rockingham County after shots fired at juveniles in vehicle, home invasion, deputies say; 1 wanted

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — A man and woman face several charges after multiple violent crimes in the Stoneville area, according to a Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office news release.

David Lenzie Purgason Jr., 34, of Walnut Cove, and Brittany Leigh Watkins, 32, of Walnut Cove, were arrested in connection to a home invasion in Stoneville on Sept. 13.

Purgason Jr. was charged with:

  • first burglary
  • robbery with a dangerous weapon
  • larceny after B&E
  • assault with a deadly weapon
  • possession of a firearm by a convicted felon

Watkins was charged with first burglary and larceny after B&E.

They were arrested in connection to a shooting on Sept. 25.

A family was in a vehicle on Janet Road, and the vehicle was shot into. A two-year-old and a five-year-old were inside.

The two-year-old’s child safety seat stopped the bullet. Neither juvenile was hurt.

Purgason Jr. was charged with discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Watkins was charged with aiding and abetting for providing a convicted felon a firearm.
