GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) – As the leaves start to fall, the work begins to get them all cleaned up.
In Greensboro, instead of raking them to the curb to be picked up, you now have to use city-issued yard waste containers or biodegradable paper bags for your leaves.
City leaders say the new system is working well and that it is safer and more efficient for their team with no major issues so far. But homeowners are still skeptical about the change and wodner if it can handle the massive load of leaves that falls across the city.
The signs of fall are on the grass, across the driveways and on the road.
“The new bin … filled it up two or three times so far,” said Tony Rogers, who lives in Greensboro.
He is concerned about where all the leaves will go this year.
“Greensboro is full of huge big trees, and I have a feeling what is going to end up happening is a lot of them are going to end up in the streets, which is dangerous,” Rogers said.
He isn’t alone. Rich Cook feels the same way. He is the owner of Big Star. It was a pressure-washing company that’s now turned into a leaf collection business.
