HIGH POINT, N.C. (WGHP) — For the 13th year in a row, members of the Williams Memorial CME Church in High Point came together to make sure every family in the Triad has food on the table this Thanksgiving.
Denean Peace has been attending the church for more than 20 years and says that people depend on packages like these more than ever.
“Right now, the cost of living is higher. Groceries are higher … We know there’s a lot of kids with the data that are showing that they don’t even have money for lunch … We just want to provide an opportunity for people to eat, especially during this time of Thanksgiving,” Peace said.
Since the first annual Feeding 10,000 Thanksgiving Dinner giveaway, Pastor Robert Williams says he’s met many folks from all walks of life.
“I remember one in which a lady had about 7 or 8 kids, and she came, and she was crying that she was in need … We were able to give her clothes and other things,” Williams said.
In the boxes, folks can expect many things.
“Three cans of corn. Three green beans. She has the stuffing … I think we have macaroni as well. They’ll get a turkey and fresh yams,” Peace said.
