Piedmont Triad snow drought comes to end after over 1,000 days

(WGHP) — After 1,038 days the Triad’s snow drought has come to an end with 0.4″ of snow measured at PTI airport. Temperatures remain cold this evening with many in the 20s after 8 PM. Overnight, temperatures fall into the 10s with clear skies making it a frigid start to Wednesday morning.

Lots of melting occurred during the day Tuesday but some lingering wet/slick spots are possible early Wednesday morning. If it looks wet overnight or early Wednesday, it’s black ice! Please use caution, especially in shaded areas and near bridges/overpasses. Afternoon temperatures on Wednesday reach the mid 40s with mostly sunny skies and breezy southwest winds.

Slightly warmer start on Thursday morning with temperatures in the low 30s out the door, but winds will be breezy with northwest winds of 10-20 mph possible. Afternoon highs reach the upper 40s. Winds gusts of 30-40 mph are possible. The strong winds are associated with a cold front that will move through during the day and will drop temperatures into the afternoon and evening. We’ll end the day Thursday colder than we started it.
