HIGH POINT, N.C. (WGHP) — One person has been charged after a fatal crash on Interstate 74 last month, according to the High Point Police Department.
Investigators with the HPPD’s Traffic Unit determined a driver was using a cell phone and failed to slow down to avoid hitting another vehicle.
Om Naing Tam, 43, of High Point, is charged with:
- misdemeanor death by vehicle
- failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident
- unlawful use of a mobile phone
Officers responded to the crash on I-74 Eastbound at Eastchester Drive on Nov. 8.
Investigators determined the driver of a Hyundai SUV was either stopped or driving slowly in the middle lane of I-74 when the driver of a Toyota van crashed into it.
The driver of the SUV that was hit, Janet Edkins, 67 of Knoxville, Tennessee, died at the scene.
