‘Life-changing’: Greensboro man to remodel home with $150,000 lottery win

HIGH POINT, N.C. (WGHP) — Danny Johnson Jr., of Greensboro, said he will remodel his home after a $5 scratch-off purchase on Friday turned into a $150,000 top prize win, according to an NC Education Lottery news release.

“My house has needed a lot of work for years,” Johnson said. “This win is life-changing.”

Johnson bought his winning Holiday Cash 50X ticket from the High Point BP on Greensboro Road in High Point.

He said he likes to play the new scratch-offs when they come out.

“I cracked a smile when I first saw it,” Johnson said. “But I tried to keep it cool.”

Johnson admitted he was shocked but wanted to stay calm after scratching his ticket at the gas pump.

“I wanted to holler, but I knew better,” Johnson said.

He arrived at lottery headquarters Monday to claim his prize.

After required federal and state tax withholdings, he took home $107,251.
