BURLINGTON, N.C. (WGHP) — It’s the giving season, and there are so many worthy causes this Christmas. But Burlington Animal Services hopes you won’t forget your furry friends this year.
Of course, they want you to consider adoption, but there is something easier you can do. They need two donations: dog houses and straw. They don’t have any here yet, but they have an Amazon Wish List.
“This is just another way we can help keep those pets with their families,” said Sydney Herron, the community engagement manager at BAS.
The goal is to keep dogs out of the shelter and with their owners by giving the pet parents what they need with programs like their pet food pantry and spay and neuter.
“We also offer resources for training. Sometimes, someone just needs help training their pet, and that can make a huge difference,” Herron said.
The Homes for the Holiday program is as simple as a donation of a dog house or some straw.
“We ask for the straw because a lot of people don’t realize … towels and things like that can get wet, which then get mildewy and cold. That is why we ask for straw. That is a lot warmer,” Herron said.
