GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — One person is dead after a crash involving a Greensboro police vehicle, according to the Greensboro Police Department.
At about 5:12 a.m., a marked Greensboro police vehicle was heading west on East Wendover Avenue at Summit Ave when it hit a pedestrian.
The pedestrian, 54-year-old Tyrence Vann, of Greensboro, was taken to a hospital where he died. The officer involved was not injured.
The officer will be placed on administrative duty per standard protocol. Police are withholding the officer’s name pending the completion of a DMV-349 report.
GPD has asked High Point police to conduct an independent crash investigation.
The lanes on the westbound side of East Wendover Avenue were closed between Lindsay Street and Summit Avenue.
