RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Santa won’t have any snow this year for his Christmas Eve journey, but a coastal low-pressure system could bring a brief period of freezing rain to parts of central North Carolina Christmas Eve morning.
This is not expected to be a major weather event for the entire area, but there is a brief window for spots east and northeast of the Triangle Tuesday morning to receive some isolated freezing rain.
The best chance for freezing rain is between 4 a.m. and 8 a.m. Christmas Eve.

This moisture will come from a developing low pressure system off the coast of Georgia. The low is forecast to track northeast, off the Carolina coast Tuesday. It will stay far enough to the east to keep just about all of the rain east of US-1.
Most temperatures will be above freezing east of US-1 too and this will keep the threat of freezing rain very low. Most, if not all, of the precipitation that will come from this system will fall as rain.
