GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) – The Guilford Metro 911 operators are working through their emotions after a tough day on Monday when Greensboro Officer Michael Horan was shot and killed.
The first call that came in was about a suspicious person at the Food Lion on Lawndale Drive then more and more calls came in reporting a shooting and an officer down.
The team that was on the clock for those calls on Monday was the same team that responded to the calls nearly one year ago when Sgt. Dale Nix was shot and killed.
“Some of the team members that were here for both are having a hard time,” said Melanie Jones, the executive director at Guilford Metro 911.
With broken hearts, they are back behind the headset at the 911 center.
“The team is working today,” Jones said.
The phones ring, and they answer never knowing what is on the other end of the line.
“They go from one call to the next to the next, and they don’t know what happened to the call that happened three calls ago. When something like this happens, and they know what happened, and it is somebody we know, that changes the emotions,” Jones said.
