PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — The weekend will begin with sun but end with a chance for wintry precipitation.
Saturday will be sunny but chilly with lows in the lower 20s and highs near 40 degrees.
Sunday will begin with sun, but clouds will roll in during the day. Sunday morning temperatures will be in the lower 20s. After lunchtime on Sunday, we could see a mix of rain, snow, and sleet. At this time, it appears the precipitation on Sunday evening will be light. Highs on Sunday will be in the lower 40s.
Sunday night into Monday morning, additional moisture will arrive. At the same time, the air above the surface will begin to warm. So, any wintry mix will transition to rain with areas of freezing rain. Monday morning temperatures will be around 32 degrees. For most of the area, a glaze of ice is possible. The most likely areas where icing could be a problem will be across Alleghany, Wilkes, and Surry Counties. Travel could be slick across our foothill counties. Rain, even the freezing rain, will come to an end during the day Monday. Afternoon highs will be in the lower 40s.
