WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WGHP) — The Winston-Salem Police Department is investigating a deadly crash that took place on Monday morning.
At around 3:34 a.m. on Monday, officers came to the area of US 52 and Patterson Avenue after getting a report of a crash.
Investigators say that Roshena Lusandra Mason, 46, of Winston-Salem, was driving a 2009 Kia northbound on US 52 near the Patterson Avenue overpass when the car lost control, went off the road to the right and crashed into several trees.
Police and EMS personnel at the scene discovered that the overpass was slick due to the winter weather conditions throughout the Triad .
A Winter Weather Advisory remains in place for much of the Triad through 11 a.m. Monday.
A passenger in the Kia was taken to a local hospital for treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. However, Mason would be pronounced dead at the scene.
The Kia was the only vehicle involved in the crash.
The WSPD’s Traffic Enforcement Unit responded to the scene and has assumed investigative responsibility.
