RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — The North Carolina Department of Transportation is preparing for any winter weather that comes into the state.
While central North Carolina hasn’t seen snow in nearly three years, NCDOT has plenty of supplies on hand and has been preparing crews and equipment.
Trucks filled with salt brine lined up and rolled out of the NCDOT lot in Wake County Wednesday morning. Crews began treating less traveled roads in the morning and will treat roads with more traffic as the storm gets closer.
“This is our first big scale salt brining operation in over a thousand days,” said Doug McNeal with NCDOT.
“We do training and we start taking a look at our equipment generally starting in September, October, and November, making sure everything is up and functional,” he said. “We also go out and do dry runs. We pressure test our salt brine applicator.”
Still, he said crews will be on standby to fix any equipment issues that could arise.
