Child dies days after falling into frozen pond in Winston-Salem: Fire Department

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A child who fell into a frozen pond while playing Thursday in Winston-Salem has died, the Winston-Salem Fire Department announced Sunday evening.

The child was in critical condition at a local hospital after falling into the pond while playing on January 16. First responders arrived on the scene at the 4000 block of Duck Pond Court at 5:02 p.m. that day, where they found three children in the water.

The child was given life-saving measures at the scene before being taken to the hospital. The two other children were also taken to a local hospital — their conditions are unknown at this time…
