CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Arctic air has arrived and is here to stay for a bit. Some neighborhoods will not get above freezing until Thursday morning. The National Weather Service has put alerts in place for part of the area due to the dangerously cold temperatures:
Cold Weather Advisory is in effect until 10 AM Tuesday for Ashe, Watauga, Avery, Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Union, Stanly, Anson, Richmond, York, and Chester counties as wind chills as low as 10° are possible.
Extreme Cold Warning is in effect from 10 AM Tuesday until noon Wednesday for Ashe and Watauga counties. Wind chills as low as 20 below zero are expected Wednesday morning.
Tuesday: It will be a frigid start as lows near 15°. Wind chills may drop into the single digits across the Piedmont early Tuesday and below zero in the mountains. Increasing clouds with a high hovering near freezing. There is an isolated chance we see flurries in the evening, but the higher snow amounts will stay east of us…
