WALNUT COVE — On Monday, the community honored Martin Luther King Jr. in the spirit of one of his more familiar quotations: “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”
The passage was included in King’s “Loving Your Enemies” sermon delivered on Nov. 17, 1957 in Montgomery, Alabama.
About 67 years later, those words provided a focus for this year’s events, which followed the theme: “What the world needs now is love.”…
