Schools in the Triangle are closing or delaying opening because of expected wintry precipitation starting Wednesday, Feb. 19.
The latest forecast shows that up to 6 inches of snow, sleet and freezing rain may be headed to parts of Central and Eastern North Carolina, The News & Observer previously reported .

List of Triangle school closings, delays or early dismissals
Here’s a look at Triangle-area school districts on Wednesday, Feb. 19 :
- Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools will have a remote learning day.
- Durham Public Schools will have a remote learning day, and all athletics and extracurricular events are canceled.
- Johnston County Public Schools will be closed, and all extracurricular events are canceled.
- Wake County Public School System schools will be closed, and athletic and extracurricular events are canceled.
Here are the make-up days for Wake schools:
- Schools that follow a year-round calendar will use banked time, and no make-up day is needed.
- Traditional calendar: Friday, March 14
- Modified calendar: Monday, March 10
- Wake Tech Early Colleges and Leadership Academies: Thursday, April 17
- Wake STEM: Monday, March 17
- Pine Hollow Middle School: Saturday, May 17
- Heritage Middle School: Saturday, May 17
Triangle college & university closings and delays
- North Carolina State University will operate on Condition 2 on Feb. 19: All classes are canceled, and the Wolfline will operate as road conditions and staffing allow.
- UNC-Chapel Hill will operated on Condition 2 on Feb. 19. All classes are canceled. Non-mandatory employees can work remotely.
- Duke University is activating its severe weather and emergency conditions policy from noon Feb. 19 through noon Feb. 20 . In-person class attendance is canceled during that time, though instructors may offer content remotely, substitute the class period with an assignment or use a make-up date (Saturday, April 5). Bus routes will depend on weather conditions.
