North Carolina’s DMV driver license design has 50 security features

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Have you seen the new design for North Carolina driver’s licenses and ID cards? The DMV’s examples show a lot going on on the front and back. You’ll find the state flag, the Hatteras lighthouse, a marble salamander, and a Spanish Mustang as well as three of your faces on the card, two in the front and one on the back.

To really see the security features of the card, you have to put it in motion. When you move the new license, the hologram on the right changes from the driver’s face to the month and year they were born. There are three clear sections on the card, and when you run your finger over the card, you can feel several raised and embossed areas.

“It is very intricate and detailed, and it is the most secure credential that we’ve ever had in the state of North Carolina. Baked into the card are more than 50 security features, some that are obvious to the eye and some that are not, and that I can’t talk about because we always want to stay ahead of the fraudsters,” said Marty Homan, NC DMV Communications Manager…
