Animal shelters across the country are reaching capacity, prompting some organizations to find creative solutions to give animals a better chance at finding homes. Pilots N Paws, a non-profit organization, collaborates with volunteer pilots to transport dogs to their new families.
Jere Fountain, a 90-year-old pilot from Eastern North Carolina, is one such volunteer. Fountain, who has been flying planes for decades, said Pilots N Paws combines his two favorite things: planes and pups. Despite retiring over 20 years ago, he logged over 500 hours in the air last year.
“For him, working with an organization like Pilots N Paws gives him purpose and allows him to help the loving animals,” said Fountain. He added that he plans to keep flying until he reaches 100 years old…
